Henry Stichter Banjo, 1848

This is a copy of the famous minstrel banjo made by Henry Stichter in 1848. It is in the banjo collection of James F. Gura, co-authored the book, America's Instrument: The Banjo in the Nineteenth Century.

This reproduction is built using the same dimensions and materials as the original Stichter banjo.  It's a large banjo with a 31" scale length and a 14" diameter rim. The total length is 45". The rim is single-ply bent oak, and the neck is carved from curly maple. The shield-shaped tuning pegs and tailpiece are made from Indian rosewood. It has a natural skin head and gut strings.   The steel and brass hardware is handmade.

Price: $1250.
